Una nueva campaña impulsada desde la plataforma Change.org busca erradicar en todo el país la práctica de las jineteadas, calificadas como formas de maltrato animal disfrazadas de tradición.
La petición, titulada “Prohibamos las jineteadas en Argentina”, sostiene que la actividad —frecuentemente celebrada en festivales rurales— implica un trato cruel hacia los caballos. Según los promotores, miles de equinos “sufren y mueren cada año” en eventos donde el entretenimiento y el folclore se superponen con el daño físico y psicológico.
Organizaciones protectoras de animales y veterinarios especializados en equinos denuncian que en las jineteadas se aplican estímulos dolorosos antes de los eventos para provocar reacciones violentas, se emplean cinchas ajustadas y maniobras con la cola para desestabilizar a los animales, y se exponen a los equinos a estrés físico y psicológico en medio de multitudes.
“Que esta brutalidad sea definida como tradición no justifica el dolor y sufrimiento infligido a los caballos”, señala el texto de la campaña. Además, la petición argumenta que la cultura es mutable, y que las manifestaciones rurales y ecuestres pueden reinventarse sin recurrir al sufrimiento animal.
Según datos citados por la campaña, un estudio realizado en 2020 por la Universidad de Buenos Aires indicaría que más del 60 % de los argentinos estaría a favor de prohibir las jineteadas, lo que reflejaría un cambio significativo en la percepción pública sobre la tradición versus el bienestar animal.
Hasta el momento, la iniciativa ya recolectó miles de firmas —más de 5.800 según algunos reportes recientes— y pretende generar presión para que autoridades nacionales y provinciales legislen en consecuencia.
Para muchos defensores de la jineteada, esta práctica forma parte del patrimonio cultural y la identidad del campo argentino. Sin embargo, quienes impulsan la campaña advierten que tradición no puede ser sinónimo de crueldad, y que respetar la cultura no puede implicar tolerar el sufrimiento animal.
El debate se da en un contexto más amplio de cuestionamientos al uso de animales en espectáculos públicos. Recientemente —y en un sentido análogo— se presentó el proyecto Ley Sintientes, que busca reconocer a los animales no humanos como “sujetos de derechos”.
Lo que proponen los impulsores:
– Prohibir la realización de jineteadas en todo el territorio nacional.
– Promover formas alternativas de celebración de la cultura rural, desligadas del daño animal.
– Instar a los legisladores a introducir normativas que garanticen el bienestar y los derechos de los animales.
La campaña instaló nuevamente en la agenda pública la tensión entre tradición y ética. Mientras miles de personas adhieren al pedido de prohibición, otros defienden la jineteada como herencia cultural. En medio del debate, crece la presión para redefinir —en Argentina— hasta dónde llega el derecho a la tradición cuando hay sufrimiento animal de por medio.
