Hubo un tiempo en la provincia de Buenos Aires en que el nombre Yamó no era simplemente un boliche, sino una contraseña compartida entre generaciones. Decir “vamos a Yamó” significaba mucho más que salir a bailar: era proyectarse hacia una noche distinta, segura, vibrante, cargada de música, luces y reencuentros. En Coronel Suárez, el reconocido “Rolo” Taboada (imagen) condujó los destinos de este emblema de la noche regional.
La historia comenzó en la década de 1970, cuando Osvaldo “Pocho” Gutiérrez —un apasionado del entretenimiento nocturno— abrió las puertas del primer Yamó en Coronel Suárez. Fue 1973 el año en que nació la marca, y pronto su concepto innovador se extendió a otras ciudades. Con el correr de los años, Olavarría, Tandil, Necochea, Tres Arroyos y otras localidades conocieron su impronta. Allí donde surgía, Yamó se transformaba en el epicentro de la vida juvenil.
Un boliche que marcó diferencia
Mientras muchos lugares de la época se quedaban en la improvisación, Yamó se distinguió por el cuidado en cada detalle. No se trataba solo de abrir la pista: la propuesta incluía iluminación de vanguardia, sonido renovado, pantallas que sorprendían, barras amplias y cómodas, espacios para sentarse y conversar. La renovación constante era parte de su sello: cada cierto tiempo, el local cambiaba, evolucionaba y volvía a seducir.
En ciudades como Tandil, Yamó se convirtió en una institución. Durante más de 35 años fue el referente indiscutido de la nocturnidad local. Allí crecieron varias generaciones de jóvenes que encontraron en esas paredes no solo música y baile, sino amistades, romances y recuerdos que se llevarían para toda la vida.
Un lugar legitimado por la sociedad
La relación de Yamó con la comunidad también fue particular. Muchos padres se animaban a dejar a sus hijas en la puerta y regresaban a buscarlas al cierre, confiando en el ambiente que se generaba dentro. Esa confianza habla de un espacio que, pese a la intensidad de la noche, era visto como seguro y ordenado.
El final de una etapa
El tiempo, sin embargo, también alcanzó a Yamó. Algunas de sus sedes fueron cerrando con el correr de los años, y el golpe final llegó cuando el histórico local de Coronel Suárez bajó la persiana el 3 de diciembre de 2021, luego de casi 49 años de historia. No fue solo el fin de un boliche: fue el cierre de una etapa en la vida de miles de bonaerenses. El comunicado de despedida lo expresó con claridad: se trataba de “el final de una hermosa etapa”, aunque con la promesa de que la marca podía renacer bajo otras formas.
El legado de Yamó
Hoy, Yamó vive en la memoria. Vive en las fotos guardadas en cajas, en los videos subidos a redes sociales, en los posteos nostálgicos que preguntan: “¿Te acordás de Yamó?”. Vive en la sonrisa que aparece cuando suena una canción de los 80 o los 90 y alguien recuerda que la bailó bajo las luces de aquel lugar.
Más que un boliche, Yamó fue una marca cultural que definió la forma de salir de varias generaciones en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Fue pionero, se reinventó, dejó huella. Y aunque sus puertas ya no se abran cada fin de semana, seguirá siendo recordado como uno de los símbolos más grandes de la noche bonaerense.
